Making new memories
There’s something truly special about shooting in a place that already holds memories for you. When you choose a location that means something, like the spot where you used to camp as a child, or the beach where you always walk your dog, it adds this extra layer of magic to your photos. It’s like the place itself is part of the story.
That’s exactly how it felt during Carly and Paul’s maternity shoot at West Pentire. For them, this wasn’t just any pretty location; it was a place woven into their memories, filled with nostalgia from childhood camping trips. I love that.
Winter light and gentle moments
We lucked out with the winter weather that day, bright sunlight dipping through moody clouds, casting that perfect kind of glow that feels almost cinematic. It was the kind of light that just works for storytelling because that’s what photography really is: capturing your story in a way that feels true.
There was this beautiful sense of calm between Carly and Paul, a deep love and quiet anticipation that you could just feel. The way they looked at each other and held hands, it was clear they were on the brink of something life-changing. And sometimes, you can just tell when a couple fits, you know? Like two puzzle pieces that were always meant to find each other.
As the sun dipped lower, it felt less like a photoshoot and more like a peaceful evening walk, the kind you take to soak up those last moments of just being two. The kind you take before everything changes and your world is flipped wonderfully upside down by a new little soul.
Why have a Maternity Shoot?
I get asked this sometimes: Why have a maternity shoot when you’re already planning a newborn session? And I get it, I do. But there’s something beautifully unique about this time before the baby arrives. It’s this tiny window of time when it’s still just the two of you, when your whole world is about to change, but hasn’t quite yet.
Maternity photos capture that space, that anticipation. It’s a way to honour your journey, to celebrate the incredible transformation your body is going through, and to remember this fleeting time when your little one is still tucked safely inside. Your body is doing this miraculous thing, which deserves to be celebrated and remembered.
