Capturing Magic: How to Prepare for a Golden Hour Photo Shoot.
Golden hour shoots are a photographer’s dream, offering that perfect, soft, golden light that makes everything look magical. But the thought of keeping your little ones up past their bedtime can be daunting if you’re a parent. Don’t worry—I’m here to put your mind at ease. One late night won’t hurt them, and you’ll create memories that last a lifetime.
So, let’s dive into some tips to ensure your golden hour session is as relaxed and enjoyable as possible.
Take it easy
I recommend beginning around 90 minutes before sunset or just before sunrise for a golden hour session. On the day of the shoot, keeping the activities low-key is a good idea to avoid over-tiredness. This ensures your children are well-rested and in good spirits for the session.
Adjust nap times
If possible, adjust nap times to allow for a later night than usual. If you’re driving to your session, try leaving earlier than necessary to squeeze in a power nap. A well-rested child is likelier to be happy during the session.
Have dinner before
No one likes being hungry, and a hangry toddler is definitely not the one! So be sure everyone has eaten before you arrive. A full tummy will help keep your little ones content. Feel free to bring snacks along.
Zero expectations
Go with the flow, relax, and trust that I will capture some gorgeous memories for you, no matter your toddler’s mood. Sometimes, the most candid and genuine moments come from unexpected situations.
Bring their pj’s
After the session, you can get your children cosy by putting them in their pyjamas. This way, you can pop them into bed when you’re home, ensuring a smooth transition from the session to sleep. Then, pour yourselves a well-earned drink and relax.
By following these tips, you can make your golden hour photo shoot a stress-free and enjoyable experience. Remember, the goal is to capture natural, heartfelt moments you’ll cherish for years. One late night won’t significantly disrupt your child’s routine, but it will provide you with beautiful, lasting memories. So, take a deep breath, relax, and let the magic of the golden hour unfold.
