Photograph your older kids | Why it’s never too late to start
Many people are really focused on capturing every moment of their child’s first year. It’s an exciting time, especially for new parents, who often go to great lengths to document every milestone. But as life can get busy and needs more intricate, you can often forget to photograph your older kids.
I’ve heard countless parents in disbelief when they look back at their teenagers and realise how much they’ve changed in just a year. I’ve been there myself. Little changes every day go unnoticed until it’s too late; that time has passed, and those moments are now gone.
So, when should you take the time to have professional photographs of your family? Is it only when they are little? Absolutely not.
The best time is now.
Our kids, they never stop growing, they are forever changing and evolving. Even if you think you have missed the perfect window, let me tell you that you’ll always look back and see a difference in them. Their faces suddenly slimmer, their eyes wiser. It is not an exaggeration to say blink, and you miss it.
As a mother to teenagers and almost teenagers, I can tell you that as they grow older, the distance between you and them can feel wider. Moments together become fleeting. They’re preparing for their own lives away from us. This is why it’s so important to capture these moments now. You won’t regret having these memories of your older kids to look back on.
Photograph your older kids
I recently worked with a beautiful family in Woolacombe, Devon. They adored their time together, connecting and laughing. Taking the time to focus on their family and share the experience of a photoshoot was special. It allowed them to create lasting memories and capture their family in photographs.
There is no age limit for family photos. Our lives are continuously growing and evolving. I am not the same person I was a few years ago, and neither are our children.
So, I urge you to remember: the best time is now. A family photoshoot only takes a couple of hours, but the memories it creates will last a lifetime. Find an hour or so to capture these moments together. Photograph your older kids! We can make it work.
