Things to do in Watergate Bay
Watergate Bay family photography
Is there anything better than making magic with families on the beach? I shot this session for the gorgeous Straughan family at Watergate Bay beach in Newquay. It’s one of my most popular locations with my families on holiday in Cornwall, so I thought I’d share with you some great things to do in Watergate Bay.
Read on for some local gems just in case you’re thinking about booking a Cornish mini-break too.
01.

THE BEACH
Watergate Bay Beach is two miles of golden sand that’s just gorgeous. It’s also popular with swimmers and surfers, plus it’s dog-friendly.
02.
boutique hotel

Stay or eat. Either way, Watergate Bay Hotel is right on the beach and has the most stunning pool with the best view. For a family-friendly dinner, head to The Beach Hut.. The food is excellent, as are the staff and a setting with an incredible view across the beach.
03.

BUT FIRST COFFEE
After your walk, I’d really recommend popping by Cubs Coffee, a laid-back, beachside spot that’s perfect for warming up and refuelling.
04.

Cakes & Sweets
Newquay is full of wonderful independent businesses, and Lady Vale Bakery in Nansledan is an absolute must-visit; their cakes are to die for!

FaMILY DAYS OUT

If you’re planning a family day out near Watergate Bay, there are some lovely, easy options nearby. Newquay Zoo is perfect for younger children, while Blue Reef Aquarium offers a calm, way to get up close with sea life.

The local’s favourite
One of my favourite pizza spots, Jam Jar Kitchen is a cafe by day and artisan pizzeria by night in the small village of Crantock which isnt too far from Watergate.
Stay anywhere between Mawgan Porth and Holywell, and you’ll be within driving distance of many of my favourite shooting spots. There are so many beautiful places to stay. You’ll be spoilt for choice.
Do you have any favourite places along the Cornish coast? If you would like to chat about a family session, pop me a message. I would love to hear from you.
